Senior Associate, Energy Trading Asset Management

Tokyo Gas America Ltd. is seeking a Senior Associate, Energy Trading Asset Management to support the Marketing & Trading Division in financial planning, affiliate oversight, and strategic initiatives.
This position plays a key role in administering business operations of the M&T Division while supporting preparations for potential majority or full ownership of an affiliate company. The Senior Associate will lead assigned projects, coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, and deliver high-quality financial and operational analysis to support executive decision-making both locally and at Tokyo headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Planning & Reporting

  • Lead preparation of the annual budget for the M&T Division, including forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Support development of business plans aligned with corporate strategy.
  • Prepare detailed financial and operational reports for senior leadership.
  • Present insights and recommendations to management members.

2. Affiliate Performance Monitoring & Governance

  • Monitor and analyze financial and operational performance of the affiliate company.
  • Prepare for board of director’s meeting of the affiliate company.
  • Identify risks, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting in accordance with requirements.

3. Strategic Projects & Integration Planning

  • Lead assigned strategic initiatives related to affiliate ownership expansion, integration planning, or operational enhancement.
  • Design integration scenarios and evaluate financial and operational synergies.
  • Coordinate with finance, trading, risk, legal, and external advisors to drive project execution.
  • Develop structured analysis to support decision-making by senior leadership and HQ.

4. Cross-Functional & Cross-Cultural Collaboration

  • Align strategies with local management teams and affiliate leadership.
  • Facilitate communication between U.S. teams and Tokyo HQ.
  • Drive stakeholder alignment across cross-functional teams to ensure project objectives are achieved.

5. Decision Support

  • Provide analytical support for HQ decision-making through reporting, modeling, and scenario analysis.
  • Provide support for any related projects as assigned.

Qualifications
Required

  • 3+ years of professional experience in energy marketing, trading, asset management, corporate finance, or related fields.
  • Fluency in both English and Japanese (written and spoken).
  • Strong analytical and financial reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead projects and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

Preferred

  • CFA, CPA, or equivalent professional certification.
  • Experience with joint ventures (JV), post-merger integration (PMI), or ownership transition initiatives.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural business environments.
  • Familiarity with energy trading operations and risk management practices.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $115,000 – $160,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, qualifications, and business needs.
This role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus. Total compensation may vary.
