A Day in the Life
As Accounting Director, you will balance strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of complex accounting matters. You will guide monthly, quarterly, and annual close and reporting activities; advise on U.S. GAAP reporting requirements; partner with business leaders on budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis; and lead accounting assessments for significant transactions. You will also coach the Accounting team, collaborate across subsidiaries, and communicate financial insights to senior leaders and Tokyo Gas Headquarters.
What You’ll Do
• Lead consolidated financial reporting and close processes across Tokyo Gas America and its subsidiaries, ensuring accuracy, consistency, compliance, and timely reporting.
• Provide technical leadership on complex accounting matters, including derivatives, hedge accounting, business combinations, and application of U.S. GAAP.
• Support acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, financing transactions, new investments, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis.
• Lead the financial statement audit process and manage relationships with external auditors and accounting advisors, including KPMG and EY.
• Improve accounting systems, processes, controls, workflows, and operational efficiency through cross functional collaboration.
• Lead, coach, and develop the Accounting team while building trusted relationships with headquarters, local leadership, and subsidiary teams.
Work Schedule & Environment
This is a full-time, local-hire position based in Houston, Texas. A hybrid work option is available subject to business needs. The role works across a multicultural, global corporate environment and requires effective collaboration with stakeholders in the U.S. and Japan.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and an active CPA license.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including at least 7 years of management experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and complex accounting principles.
• Demonstrated leadership in financial reporting, internal controls, and financial close processes.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
• Accounting or finance experience in the energy industry.
• Experience with SAP, Diva, OneStream, or similar ERP, consolidation, and financial reporting systems.
• Experience working in a multicultural corporate environment and collaborating with overseas headquarters.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
• Exposure to J-GAAP and experience collaborating with a Japan-based headquarters or cross-functional team are a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive base salary ranging from $190,000 to $225,000, based on qualifications, experience, and market considerations. This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus and a comprehensive benefits package that includes 401(k), medical, dental and vision insurance, short-term disability, life insurance, education assistance, paid time off, company holidays, and a hybrid work option subject to business needs.
