Investment in Gas Marketing and Trading Company in North America

Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (“Tokyo Gas”) announced that Tokyo Gas America Ltd. (“Tokyo Gas America”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, has established two subsidiaries (TGAM Trading, LLC and TGARM Investment, LLC) in the United States in order to promote its gas marketing and trading (M&T) business in North America. Through the newly established subsidiaries, Tokyo Gas has reached an agreement to acquire a 49% equity interest in ARM Energy Trading, LLC, a natural gas M&T company in North America established by ARM Energy Holdings, LLC (“ARM”).

Completion of Aktina Solar Power Plant in the USA 

Tokyo Gas America Ltd. (President: INUKAI Akira), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (President: SASAYAMA Shinichi) (“Tokyo Gas Group”), has completed the construction of the “Aktina Solar Power Project”*1 (the “Project”) in the state of Texas in the USA. The entire construction process of the Project was divided into four phases, with partial operations beginning in August 2021, and the Project is now fully operational from December 2023. The maximum output of the Project is 631MWdc, making it one of the largest solar power plants in the USA. 

Establishment of Subsidiaries in the United States and the Acquisition of a 174MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project

Tokyo Gas America Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Tokyo Gas”), is pleased to announce the establishment of subsidiaries (TG Longbow Holdings LLC and its subsidiaries) in the United States and the acquisition of the 174MW Longbow BESS Project (hereinafter “Longbow”) in the state of Texas in the USA, through the subsidiaries. Longbow has been developed by Clean Capital Partners, LLC, a renewable energy development company headquartered in the USA.

Acquisition of Shares in Rockcliff Energy II LLC and Change in Subsidiaries

Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (“Tokyo Gas”) announced that Tokyo Gas America Ltd. (“Tokyo Gas America”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, decided to acquire all shares of Rockcliff Energy II LLC (“RC”), a portfolio company of Quantum Energy Partners, through its ownership interest in TG Natural Resources LLC (“TGNR”).

Participation of Sempra Infrastructure to the Detailed Study regarding the Introduction of e-methane to Japan Utilizing Cameron LNG Terminal

A consortium comprised of Tokyo Gas Company, Ltd., Osaka Gas Company, Ltd., Toho Gas Company., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corporation today announced an agreement with Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra, that it participates in the evaluation of a proposed project to produce e-methane, a form of carbon recycling, in the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Investment in and Collaboration with Global Thermostat, a U.S.-based Firm with Leading-Edge Direct Air Capture Technology

Tokyo Gas, acting through its wholly owned subsidiary Acario Investment One, LLC (CEO: OKUI Toshiharu), becomes the first Japanese energy company to invest in and conclude an agreement for collaborating with Global Thermostat, PBC (“Global Thermostat”), a U.S.-based firm which offers a leading-edge technology for the Direct Air Capture (“DAC”) of carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere.

Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Toho Gas and Mitsubishi Collaborate to Produce e-methane in the US and Transport It to Japan, Utilizing Cameron LNG in Louisiana

The parties have entered into an agreement and commenced to conduct a detailed joint feasibility study on a project to produce synthetic methane (e-methane) in Texas or Louisiana, liquefy it at the existing Cameron LNG facility, and transport it to Japan utilizing other existing infrastructure, including LNG ships and receiving terminals in Japan. The targeted e-methane production volume is 130,000 tons per year to start in 2030.

MOU Signed with Shell for Joint Exploration of Decarbonization

Tokyo Gas has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Shell to jointly study potential opportunities to accelerate decarbonization.

Announcement of Group’s Management Philosophy

Tokyo Gas has revised Tokyo Gas Group Management Philosophy, effective April 1, 2022.
